The leathered finish is achieved by using clay pellets to grind down the softer minerals in the stone more rapidly than the harder minerals. As the softer minerals are removed from the stone, the surface becomes darker and textured, resulting in a striking color and feel. Because the leathering process creates a richer color, you do not need to apply mineral oil to achieve a darker look on your leathered countertops.
